Travertine side tables

A side table is the piece you reach for every day. Too slight and it disappears; too bulky and it fights the sofa. This collection is the other kind: designer side tables in travertine, marble and sculptural forms, made to order and sized to sit beside a sofa, armchair or bed.

Travertine Side Tables

Travertine is the warm, porous stone behind the current wave of organic modern rooms. Honed beige travertine side tables bring texture without shine pores, tonal shifts and a matte surface that sits comfortably next to linen, oak and bouclé. Pieces such as Elvane are 100% natural travertine; others, such as Calivo, use a travertine-look finish where a lighter pedestal form is the point. Every product page states the exact material.

Choose a round travertine pedestal table when you want a calm, architectural silhouette. Choose nesting travertine coffee tables when the living room needs to flex pulled apart for drinks, stacked when the floor needs to clear.

Marble Side Tables and End Tables

Marble side tables do a different job. Veining is the draw: Calacatta Viola on Orvena, deep brown mineral movement on Monterra. No two slabs match, which is the point. In the US these are usually searched as marble end tables; same furniture, different name. A honed finish reads softer and more current than high polish. Spirena takes another route a marble-look top on a gold spiral base for rooms that want a statement without the weight of solid stone.

Use a compact marble pedestal beside an armchair. Use nested marble tables as a pair flanking a sofa. Keep acidic cleaners, wine and citrus off the surface; natural marble etches.

Sculptural and Cloud-Shaped Designs

Not every table in this collection is a cylinder on a disc. Sculptural side tables stacked spheres, cruciform bases, spiral pedestals, cloud silhouettes work as functional sculpture. They still have to hold a lamp, a book and a glass. If the shape is the reason you are buying, measure the walkway around it: organic and cloud-shaped coffee tables need more floor than a slim round side table.

Mixed-material pieces (stone with walnut, ceramic with wood, marble with metal) are here for rooms that already have a lot of one finish and need a counterweight.

How to Choose the Right Size

Match the table to the seat, not the room.

  • Beside a sofa or armchair: the top should sit at or just below the arm usually 45–55 cm high. Diameter around 40–50 cm is enough for a lamp and a drink without crowding the seat.
  • As a coffee table: keep the top 2–5 cm below sofa-seat height, typically 35–45 cm. Aim for about two-thirds the sofa’s length, with 40–45 cm of clearance around the perimeter to walk.
  • As a pair or nest: two smaller tables often sit better than one large one in a narrow living room. Stagger heights rather than matching them.
  • Weight: solid stone is heavy. Elvane is around 70 kg. Check floors, lifts and the path from the door before you order. Most tables arrive fully assembled.

Unsure? Send a photo of the space, sofa height and the gap beside it. Sizing advice is free, and most designs can be adjusted.

FAQs

What is the difference between a side table, an end table and a coffee table?

A side table (UK) and an end table (US) are the same idea: a compact table beside a sofa, armchair or bed, usually 45–55 cm high. A coffee table sits in front of the sofa, lower and larger. This collection includes both. Check the product title and dimensions Vantoro, Averon, Dovira and Rozavel are coffee-table scale; Calivo, Orvena, Elvane, Rovelle, Monterra and Spirena sit at side-table height.

Are these tables real marble and travertine?

Some are. Orvena is honed Calacatta Viola marble. Monterra is natural marble, hand-shaped in India. Elvane is 100% natural beige travertine. Others use a stone-look finish — Calivo is magnesium oxide with a travertine-look surface; Spirena has a marble-look top on a metal base. The product page always lists the material. Natural stone will vary in colour, pores and veining; that is not a fault.

What size side table do I need next to my sofa?

Measure the sofa arm height and buy a table within about 5 cm of that number, preferably a touch lower. For a standard sofa, 50–54 cm high with a 40–50 cm top is the usual range. Leave enough room to sit down without knocking the table. If you want a lamp on it, choose a slightly larger top so the shade does not overhang the seat.

How do I care for marble and travertine?

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry straight away. Use a pH-neutral cleaner only. Avoid vinegar, lemon, bleach and anything abrasive they etch and stain natural stone. Always use coasters. Do not put hot pans or mugs directly on the surface. Travertine is more porous than marble; wipe spills immediately. For piece-specific advice, message the team with the product name.
